Subject: Minute of the PEP-N Italian meeting (Ferrara Dec. 22). Dear All, as you know on Dec. 22-nd in Ferrara was held the PEP-N Italian meeting, the following topics have been discussed: ---- MAGNET ---- The CERN magnet is no longer available, another magnet has been simulated by Diego Bettoni, these are some parameters: -> distance between poles: 1.0 m -> pole diameter : 1.2 m -> distance between yokes: 2.0 m -> magnetic field : 3.0 Kgauss results of the simulation were shown. Diego will discuss it with SLAC accelerator people. --- CENTRAL TRACKING --- Two hypothesis have been considered: - wire chamber - TPC The TPC would give a good dE/dx measurement, would have a high acceptance and low amount of material. The wire chamber would need thicker support for the wires. It's not clear anyway if a TPC will work with a low and not very homogeneous magnetic field. M.Morandin and R.Calabrese will study the problem. Some Simulations with "Garfield" are needed to understand the behaviour of these chambers, the reference people are D.Bettoni, M.posocco . --- CALORIMETER --- The possibility of using the L3 endcaps calorimeters has been proposed and discussed with B.Borgia. They are made by 2000 BGO blocks with a geometry pointing at a distance of about 70 cm. This could limit the acceptance of the central tracking. Bruno will discuss with his L3 collaborators at the mid January coll. meeting about the availability of the endcaps. --- MONTE CARLO SIMULATIONS --- Some GEANT studies have been done by M.Posocco and M.Negrini with a first approximation of the geometry. Some results about the acceptance of the apparatus for 6 pions (four charged and two pi0) have been shown. The acceptance for detecting all the 4 charged pions is about 70%, wich is lower than expected. Some checks will be done. M.Posocco made all the MC routines available through the web at the Padova-NANAR home page: http://www.pd.infn.it/~stroili/pepn/cvs.html a password is required, please ask Mario if you want to use it. --- FURTHER STUDIES --- Further MC studies need to be done to understand: - multi-hadrons with pions - multi-hadrons with kaons - n - nbar - control channels (mu+ mu-, e+e-, gamma-gamma) Frascati + Rome will take care of the two body reactions (control channels, n - nbar, p-pbar), Rinaldo will study the relative weight of the multihadronic channels.
